Statement by the Minister for Democratic Institutions

Ottawa, ON, June 6, 2016 - The Minister for Democratic Institutions, the Honourable Maryam Monsef, issued the following statement today on the decision by Mr. Marc Mayrand to step down as Chief Electoral Officer on December 28, 2016.

“After nearly 10 years of loyal and dedicated service to Canada’s electorate and to Parliament, Mr. Mayrand has decided to end his tenure as Canada’s sixth Chief Electoral Officer.
